Welcome new life, new theme!

Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free, yes, FREE!

Oprah oftenly uses Skype on her shows. She even described it as Jetson’s televiewing technology. Remember when you see on Star Wars or Star Trek or Doraemon when the characters talk to each other screen-to-screen like face-to-face? We have it now. And yes, this software makes us think that everything we see on old days futuristic movies  is no longer fiction.

I’ve just installed it recently and my respond was: Whooaah! Cool!

And when I did my first video call with my (also) newbie friend: What the heck?! Dude, is this a joke?! Damn cool!

Yeah, Skype is new for me and I love it. You can call for free, and have a video call for free, and it also has IM feature (not special).

Pada pagi hari tanggal 8 Mei 2010, saya mendapatkan berita gembira dari koran Kompas dan website “penerimaan UI”. Saya dinyatakan diterima di fakultas Manajemen Universitas Indonesia.

Tuhan begitu baik mengijinkan saya diterima langsung melalui SIMAK UI.

Saya sangat senang, terutama karena memang saya hanya mendaftar di UI, dan setelah menghadapi sendiri SIMAK UI serta melihat cukup banyak teman tidak diterima, saya sempat menjadi pesimis. Tetapi ternyata saya diterima!

Hahaha…

I think you already know the story of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. She discovers a bottle labelled “DRINK ME”, which causes her to shrink. A cake with “EAT ME” on it causes her to grow to such a tremendous size her head hits the ceiling. With notable side characters like White Rabbit, the Chesire Cat, Mad Hatter and his hare. A children classic.

But probably there are some facts that you don’t know.

I found out that Lewis Carrol, the writer of the story is the pseudonym of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, an English author, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon, and a photographer. Now, do you ever wonder how could somebody imagine such nonsense realm? There was this migraine called Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, not coincidentally named after Lewis’ work. He suffered from this syndrome which also known as micropsia and macropsia, it is a brain condition affecting the way objects are perceived by the mind. The patient with the Alice in Wonderland syndrome has a feeling that their entire body or parts of it have been altered in shape and size. The eyes themselves are normal, but the sufferer ‘sees’ objects with the wrong size or shape or finds that perspective is incorrect. This can mean that people, cars, buildings, etc. look smaller or larger than they should be, or that distances look incorrect; for example a corridor may appear to be very long, or the ground may appear too close. The syndrome is usually associated with visual hallucinations. Remember Alice shrinks and grow?! Lewis also suffered from a form of epilepsy in which consciousness is not always completely lost, but altered to a fantasy world, and in which the symptoms mimic many of the same experiences as Alice in Wonderland.

Lewis’ life shrouded in mystery. At least four complete volumes and around seven pages of text are missing from Dodgson’s diaries. The loss of the volumes remains unexplained; the pages have been deliberately removed by an unknown hand. Some said it was connected to his romance which was objected by his family, some said it has something to do with his pedophilia.  Who knows?

By the way, Queen of Hearts is not The Red Queen. The Queen of Hearts is part of the deck of card imagery which is present in the first book while the Red Queen is representative of a red chess piece, as chess is the theme present in the sequel. Many adaptations have mixed the characters, causing much confusion.

SMAK 1 students (2010 generation) were officially graduated on May 1st. I am one of them.

The best thing about graduated on May Day is when people say: “Damn, tomorrow is Labor Day. Streets will be full of demonstrators.” You would be the only one smiling and say: “You know what? It’s my graduation day.”

Each of us received a medal, an invaluable medal. What makes it invaluable? Not the material. And the cost: 20 million+(3 x 12 x 1 million)= 56 million, only makes the medal pricy. But the fact that only about 250 persons from the whole world received the medals makes  them classified as rare. The other medal need you to enter a day, a week, or a month competition, while we need to compete, train, and fight for 3 years to have this medal, it surely makes this medal invaluable. Hey, probably  I can be a zillionaire if I sold this medal on an auction!

3 years used to feel really long and hard. But now I just can’t believe I’ve through it all. I thought it was yesterday when I first entered SMAK 1.

Congratulations, for me and everyone graduated! Now get your butt out from high school, new stage of life is waiting!

Let’s talk about hatred, hate. You can find its opposition, love, a lot more talked about, described, studied biologically or psychologically. You can see in English Wikipedia, love has more writing than it’s arch-enemy. David Hume believed that hate is an irreducible feeling that is not definable at all. Hate holds a great enigma that nobody wants to talk about, or they can’t understand at all. What an interesting feeling! So many people talk about love, and they still can’t understand love. So many people hate each other, and they still can’t explain it.

People rehearse hundreds time to say “I love you”, and their head stops them in the last minute, considering shame and probability of rejection. Funnily for me, I want to show how much I hate somebody, and my head stops me. I can’t easily get rid of hatred, just like people can’t get rid of love.

So, actually, what is it that I want to talk about? Nothing in particular. Nothing focused. You can say I’m drunk, and I’m blabbering in my own world. Am I in a bad mood? I’m not smiling, so I’m not in a good mood, I’m not feeling like throwing myself from a tower, so I’m not in an awful mood. I’m just temporarily losing slight of my sanity. Funny though, today is my graduation day and I’m not feeling good.
